Volvo Cars Integrates Prime Video and YouTube for Enhanced In-Car Entertainment
September 19 2023,
In a move to elevate the in-car experience, Volvo Cars has introduced Prime Video to its vehicles' Google Play Store for global download, wherever Google apps and services are accessible. The Swedish automaker is among the first to offer Amazon's Prime Video service directly within its car interface, making it easier for passengers and drivers to stream content when the vehicle is stationary.
Starting September 18th, the Prime Video service will become available as a pre-installed app via an over-the-air (OTA) update, which will be rolled out market by market. Following closely, YouTube will also soon be integrated into Volvo cars that come with built-in Google services. This addition will also arrive as part of an OTA update and will come pre-installed on the system.
Erik Severinson, Global Head of New Car Programmes at Volvo, states that the new streaming services are part of a broader initiative to "make lives for our drivers better" by constantly updating the vehicle's software and application suite. In alignment with the company's commitment to safety, it should be noted that the video streaming options will only be operable when the car is at a complete standstill.
As automotive manufacturers explore new ways to enhance the user experience, Volvo's move to integrate Prime Video and YouTube is a significant milestone in this evolving landscape. This development brings a new level of convenience and entertainment options to Volvo car owners worldwide.
