Introducing the Volvo C40 Pure Electric Compact SUV

Introducing the most recent addition to the Volvo Cars lineup: the Volvo C40 Recharge, the vehicle to represent the future of Volvo Cars. It’s the first-ever Volvo designed and released as purely electric.

The C40 was built with the same ‘building blocks’ as the XC40 and lends a similar sense of power and character, while adding lightness and athleticism.

Volvo’s intelligent design focused on breaking new ground with the C40 by retaining something familiar from past models – like ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights, augmented with new pixel LED’s that adjust automatically to light conditions and switch on/off automatically to optimise their light pattern. Vertical rear lights are also now segmented, creating a modern take on classic Volvo design.

Design inspired by Scandinavian landscapes with a quiet atmosphere, light and freedom of space – the exterior of the C40 is united with an interior characterized by the calming effects of nature. The panoramic glass roof is a testament to this inspiration, offering a connection to nature through all seasons, no matter the weather.

Connection to nature is reflected in the amount of sustainable material used in the interior of the C40, including topography trim panels made partially of recycled plastic and carpet that is 100% recycled PET plastic bottles. This is the first model in the Volvo Cars lineup to offer a leather-free interior and options of renewable wool fibres, suede textile and micro-tech material.

Organization, thoughtfulness and functionality is key for Volvo drivers and this awareness was implemented in the C40, repeating Volvo Cars ‘uncluttering’ approach. There are a variety of smart, thoughtful ways to store driver and passenger belongings within arm’s reach.

Some say the C40 is a symbol of the next generation. The use of renewable and recycled materials and being fully electric, add to the future of electrification. Aerodynamic features (eg/ the new wheel design) blend symbolism and functionality.

Volvo continues to set the standard for safety systems, incorporating automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and pedestrian/cyclist detection standard in all vehicles. With a longstanding safety heritage Volvo now extends this to its first electric-only offering, the C40 Recharge compact SUV. Recently awarded the coveted 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), the C40 Recharge maintains the Volvo legacy of caring about people.
